Spelling Bee

A focus in English classes in the Secondary School this week has been spelling, and every student in the school competed in our first ever Spelling Bee.

Modelled on the popular TV competition, students first of all competed head to head, then on their own against the clock to find out who was the best speller in Key Stages 3 and 4. Hafsa Arshad in Year 9 won the junior competition, correctly spelling 14 words (examples such as 'abstinence', 'reversible', and 'classification' should give you an idea how hard this was) in only 90 seconds. Wai Yeng Wong gave an unbeatable demonstration of spelling skill in the senior competition spelling 19 words (including 'antagonist', 'raccoon', and 'anachronistic') flawlessly.

Honourable mentions also go to Kimberline Chew (13), Devesh Rai (13), Steven George (12), Tiffany Chang (11) and Alice Shin (10). A big thank you to all our contestants who were brave enough to stand up in front of their friends and teachers and compete for this award.

Congratulations to the winners of the Secondary School 2010 Spelling Bee
