Netball TournamentsOur senior netball team is having a busy time at the moment. With one tournament just passed and one to come, here's a round up from the perspective of the coaches and players. There are pictures of the tournament in our photo gallery. On Saturday 30th October, 12 students, Ms. Byfield and Ms. White drove us to BISS Pudong to participate in this year’s annual SISAC Netball Tournament. 5 teams took part in the tournament: BISS Pudong; Dulwich College (Division 1 and 2); SRIS (Rego) and our school’s team of 12 players. First of all, the teams began a warm up of stretches and drills. After this, each of the teams competed against each other in a series of games lasting 30 minutes with 5 minute half-time breaks; during these breaks the coaches gave the players advice and constructive feedback about their tactics and previous play. By the end of the first game, many members of the team were pink-faced and out of breath, but were still eager to continue playing to the best of their ability. The opposition was however a little daunted by Taylor Harriott’s height and blocking tactics. After all the games the scores were tallied and the two teams with the most points competed against each other. These teams were Dulwich 1 and 2. During this game, BISS Puxi’s team watched their techniques and strategies in order to learn more for the upcoming ACAMIS tournament held on the 4th - 6th of November. Sarah Collins, Year 11 Our senior netball squad has been training very hard this term. They have spent many hours looking at tactics and on court moves, and in some fiercely contested practice matches against staff and parents, and were delighted to be able to finally put all their hard work into practice at the SISAC tournament at BISS Pudong last Saturday. They are a young and relatively inexperienced team, and the opposition they faced at the tournament provided them with a series of stiff challenges. It was a real pleasure to see the team develop in strength and confidence as the day progressed. Having started with a heavy defeat by the eventual winners, the day ended with two closely contested matches in which the girls showed skill, determination and the mutual support which is the mark of a good team. They are showing a great deal of promise, and we are certainly looking forward to the future. The next stage in the development of the squad comes in the form of the ACAMIS tournament which we are hosting at BISS Puxi next weekend, 4th-6th November. This will bring further challenges, and further opportunities for the girls to develop their individual skills and their strength as a team. Laura Byfield and Jane White, Coaches |
