A Mathematical ChallengeThis year almost 50 of our students faced this infamously tough Mathematical Challenge, aimed at 16-19 year old mathematicians around the world. All our Higher Level Mathematicians across years 12 and 13 took part along with the year 11 Additional Mathematics IGCSE class and a few willing volunteers from our IB standard level classes. The questions from this challenge are excellent enrichment material for our classroom and often generate rich discussions and sometimes arguments over their solutions. The three levels of challenges attract over 600,000 students, taking part across 4000 schools around the world. Our students truly are taking part in an international competition. The UK Mathematics Trust aims to report on scores and certificates in early December. The top 40% of students who participate world wide receive a certificate, and these are much coveted. Fingers crossed for the moment! Martin Brown, Head of Mathematics. |
