Football Season 'Closer'The C1 and C2 football season came to an end with a tournament at SAS Puxi. This tournament had over 20 teams from 14 different schools participating. Both our teams performed well and enjoyed a day of football that started in thick fog and ended in bright sunshine. The C2 team, coached by Dan Reeves, showed plenty of potential with their neat passing style. As a team consisting almost entirely of year 7 boys they ended the day with a win a draw and two defeats. This was a creditable performance against teams that were physically larger and stronger. There is clearly much potential in this team as they further develop. They were represented in the Representative game by Daniel McDougle, who impressed with his ‘never say die’ attitude. The C1 team was coached by Tolga Gueuses and consisted of mostly Year 9 boys. They impressed with a well organised and prolific day of goal scoring. They won each of their games and scored 20 goals for the loss of just two. They displayed excellent team spirit and impressed with their willingness to support and encourage when they were not playing. It is a pity the season has ended as they are a much improved team. There were many strong performances, but especially deserving of a mention are Sean Hughes who scored 7 but more than this never gave up any cause as lost. The defensive bedrock was provided by Max Zimmer and Alok Herath. The team was represented by Ben Schweitert in the Representative game. He excelled in this, scoring both of the 'West's' goals in a 2-2 draw - whilst playing in defence. The second, a twenty yard screamer into the top corner, will live long in the memory. |
