ACAMIS Chess Tournament

Members of the chess club took part in the ACAMIS chess tournament last weekend competing against students from many of the major international schools in the China central region. They came out with a strong result with a close second and just missing out on a third in their division.

Although we lacked numbers, we certainly made up for this in the quality of our game. The tournament was held at Suzhou Singapore International School with almost sixty competitors which included Dulwich College, Shanghai American School, and  Nanjing International School. Some fierce competition followed, involving some FIDE rated players, one of whom had just come back from the world youth championships in Greece.

It was a shaky first round that saw our players playing against each other, however they quickly rose up the leader board through successive wins in later games. The competition was close with Daniel Wu just missing out on a third, and Lucas Khan receiving second place (both competitors were in the under twelve division). With many years still ahead to train and prepare, the chess team at our school look set to becoming a powerhouse in the ACAMIS competitions!

Playing against some tough competition, our young players proved themselves to be more than capable.
