Shade and Shadow

Year 11 IGCSE have been given the theme ‘Shade & Shadow’ for their IGCSE Fine Art Exam. On Wednesday 9th March, Year 11 Art Students where taken out on a trip by their teacher Ms Pearce to visit galleries & to explore Shanghai in search of interesting shades & shadows.

First stop, Moganshan Lu, the Art district of Shanghai. The students visited many galleries and viewed paintings, sculptures and printmaking.

Rebecca Roulstone “I found the galleries in Moganshan Lu very interesting & found an Artwork that featured the quote…This second is over. This has made really think about shadows and what they mean”

The next stop was the French Concession where the students were able to take photos and sketch the interesting streets and trees that are to be found in that area.

Ji Min Lee “I was particularly excited when the shadows came out after 12am”

The last stop in the afternoon was the Bund. The sun came out & so to did the shadows! The students had fun exploring their own shadows and spent time sketching the contrast of old and new architecture.

Max Chao “I found drawing outside to be a great adventure and fun”

The students are now busy in the Art studio working from their photographs and observational drawings. They are experimenting with exciting ways that they can turn their visual enquires into a 10 hour piece of Artwork for their final IGCSE Art exam.
