Rugby ChampionsThe season for the U13 rugby team has been a fantastic and explosive one for those boys involved. After a successful tour to Bangkok, which strengthened the teams spirit immensely, they embarked on tackling the local teams of Shanghai and Suzhou. The boys performed exceptionally well registering some superb rugby moves and disposed of every team in the league scoring a record 35 tries and conceding only 2. They finished top of the league and went into the CISSA end-of-season tournament as favourites. After some close encounters against a spirited Dulwich team and new boys WISS, the boys got to the final and played arch rivals BISS Pudong in front of a massive crowd at The Shanghai Hairy Crabs Rugby Club. The team endured some tough line breaks and had to dig deep but eventually broke the deadlock through winger Maxime Fontaine who burst through a number of tackles after being clinically fed by fly-half and captain James Shepherd. It then went down to the forwards who really dominated the set piece putting the Pudong scrum under immense pressure. After getting to the line by a solid break from Richard Trinder and Edward Callery, scrum half Charlie Johnson nipped through on a loose ball and secured the victory and with it the title of CISSA Champions 2011. The team collected a fantastic trophy and medal for their efforts along with some great memories. One important detail to be remembered: the team scored 23 tries in the CISSA Tournament and conceded 0. A remarkable statistic to be proud of. Well done to all the team who played outstanding throughout the whole season. A special mention must be made to the top try scorers including centre Sean Hughes, scrum-half Charlie Johnson, winger Ryan Grant, fly-half James Shepherd and of course the ever reliable tackling machines, prop Espartaco Gonzalez and hooker Richard Trinder who together proved to be an awesome force in both attack and defence. Well done to the boys.
