A Day in Zhujiajiao

On the 24 May it was a bright and sunny day as the year 8 students went on a field trip to Zhujiajiao. Zhujiajiao was an ancient water town and is now famous for tourist attractions and its history.

After a brief explanation of the schedule for the day, everyone was handed a booklet to fill in during the trip. We were all bursting with excitement as we boarded the bus. Once on the bus, we were all treated to some scrumptious chocolate chip cookies made by the wonderful Mrs. Clark.

The bus ride to Zhujiajiao was approximately 45 minutes; we made our way out into the town and were greeted by Tony, our tour guide for the day. Half of year 8 went with Tony for an interesting tour, while the other half of year 8 went and did some surveys on the ancient water town and the impacts of tourism.

We filled in the answers in the booklet while listening to the guided tour around Zhujiajiao. We visited a special bridge (which was believed to bring luck on the 20th step), a gigantic house with its enormous garden and the small streets that built the whole town itself.

Two spectacular hours later, we met at the doors of KFC. Everyone was famished from all the walking and surveying the area, so were prepared to dig in for a delicious lunch.

After lunch, the groups switched, so those students that did surveys in the morning went on their guided tour. The other group that went on the tour earlier before separated and went on their surveys.

Each group were to collect some information on their allocated points and some information at various points across Zhujiajiao. Some of the surveys included listing the attractions in Zhujiajiao, how many people walked past the street that the groups were to do their surveys at in 15 minutes and a count of what types of cars were parked at the parking lot.

Around 1:55pm, we all scrambled onto the buses and made our way back to the primary campus, while filling in any extra details in our booklets.

Everyone was thrilled to have gone on this trip, and we are all looking forward to going on another fabulous trip next year.
An entertaining day at Zhujiajiao was definitely a day for us to remember.
