Trips Report: WednesdayWednesday has brought rain for some, although the beaches and rainforests of Hainan are still hot and sunny. Y7: YangshuoMr England reports that all is still going well. His group stayed at the campsite last night and had a great time, including doing all the chores. They managed to get a camp fire going after about an hour but it did keep on burning until the small hours. They didn't get a lot of sleep ( hot, humid and lots of mosquitoes) so all pretty tired today. Have been kayaking on the river Li this morning and caving with the mudslide this afternoon. They are having a lesson in bouldering in a while and then some prep work for the community service tomorrow. The second group, who are now at the campsite, are also, we gather from Miss Roelandt, having a great time, despite the light rain. Y8: HainanSurfing this morning for one group, who apparently did "really well ... and managed to stand up at least a little bit"! The other group enjoyed yesterday's river gorge climb and the camping, but didn't get on as well with the mosquitoes. They had a rainforest trek today, before everyone joined together for a visit to a local school. They coped very well with the challenge of teaching local children English - perhaps now they have an idea of how their teachers feel every day! Group one are camping tonight and watching a local performance, while group two are looking forward to returning to the luxury of hotel beds, a swimming pool and air conditioning. It's all still hot and sunny in Hainan, with one or two - according to Mr Jones - starting to look a little red! Y9: ZiyuanThe team went to Ziyuan for a water adventure - but there's been more today than everyone bargained for. Lots of the wet stuff has fallen out of the sky, and we're hoping it will ease to make sure we can carry on with the river programme as planned. Today's rafting was great fun, as was an afternoon hike. The guest house didn't have as many stars as the students were hoping for (actually it didn't have any stars) - it was described as "rustic" by Ms Morris. the appeal of the local food is wearing off for some after a couple of days, but Aoi's birthday means that there's cake available to supplement this. The hotel beckons - with proper showers - so everyone's happy. The second group had to change their walking plans as mud slides stopped them from getting to the waterfall. They re-routed and had a valley hike instead, before heading off for the "rustic" guest house. Everyone's dried out and settled in for the evening, with dinner on its way. Mr Rice reports everyone happy and having a good time. Y12: CambodiaWe've had so many good articles from the students in Cambodia that we've written them up as separate news items.
