A Trip to the Zoo

Our year 12 student, Jae Jeong An, reports on a trip to the zoo in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

To share a valuable experience with the Cambodian children, we decided to go to the zoo. Each year 12 student was given the responsibility of looking after one child while at the zoo. I was partnered with Seyha who I had taught English to in the Cambodian school. We had a snack and looked at the animals, such as monkeys, snakes, bears and bulls.

Despite the language barrier, we didn’t find it difficult to communicate. We took pictures on the rock as well and had a lot of fun even though we only had a short time together. It had been more than 5 years since I'd been to the zoo, and Seyha does not often have the opportunity to leave his community, so this was really an unforgettable experience for both of us.
