A Sports UpdatePhew, what a term! Having completed my first term as Head of PE and Sport at the school, I have to again acknowledge how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to work with such a number of talented sports players and coaches. This term has seen a range of sporting activities, from tennis tournaments to triathlons and plenty in between. I would like to take this opportunity to recap Term 1. The start of term centred on volleyball and ended with basketball, and in both cases the final goal was to build towards ACAMIS. Sandwiched between those two sports we had swimming, tennis, football, rugby, netball and a triathlon. It is difficult to give an exact figure of how many students have represented the school in one or more of those events this year but I would suggest that 280 students is a reasonable guess. It should be noted at this point that the age of these competitors has ranged from 7-19 years old. On top of that we have had 18 members of staff involved. As a newby to the international circuit I had little idea of exactly how much sport our students would have the opportunity to participate in; I could not be more pleased at the opportunities BISS has offered this term in regard to sports. Next term sees the culmination of senior basketball and the start of junior netball and rugby. It also sees our badminton players get a chance to show their talents and there will further opportunities for the BISS Lions swim team to cement their place as a force to be reckoned with in Shanghai. As ever I would like to thank those who have played, supported, coached and helped organise the sports this term. As much as the PE staff are looking forward to our holidays over the next two weeks, I also know we can’t wait for the matches to start again when we return. Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday.
