During October, City Weekend held an art and writing competition for children of all ages, from international schools in Beijing and Shanghai.
The theme this year was ‘Your Secret Garden’. The children had to use their imaginations to illustrate what their secret garden would be like. Then, in 100 words, they had to name their garden and write about all of its wonderful qualities. The competition was set as optional homework in the Primary school and lots of children sent off their fantastic and creative entries to City Weekend.
Our primary school is very proud of everyone who entered, especially Paul Haefliger in 1I and Lucas O’Riordan in 2I whose work has been included by City Weekend in the top 50 entries. Their work is available to view online and at the Art & Writing Awards at the beginning of February. They are both in the age 2-6 category and will be invited to attend the award ceremony where a special guest will pick out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd award for each age group.
Paul Haefliger wrote, “There are dragons around a bamboo forest to guard it. There is a subway, a Pearl Tower and a kitchen. The subway is to move around places. I will live in the Pearl Tower. The kitchen is to make food. And I need an airport with supersonic airplanes.”
Lucas O’Riordan wrote, “In my secret garden there is a huge chocolate tree with a monkey swinging off it. There is also a big grey elephant, a puma and butterflies.”
