Reading Workshop

On Wednesday 15 February, parents were invited to a "hands-on" reading workshop event at the primary school.

Teachers from Early Years, KS1 and KS2 offered a variety of 20 minute workshops aimed at providing parents with ideas and activities to promote reading at home.  More than 80 families joined us to learn about fun and educational reading activities they could enjoy along with their child. Parents were able to learn about story boxes, recipes and reading, critical literacy, effective questioning strategies as well as vocabulary development and strategies to support the reading of non-fiction texts. Positive feedback from parents was received and many parents commented on the fact they felt inspired and motivated to try some of the fun reading activities at home. A draw was held and 10 families received a gift bag full of books to enjoy with their children.  Many thanks to all who attend and we look forward to more reading events in the future!

If you were unable to attend the workshop but would like a copy of the Primary Literacy Help Guide, please collect one from the primary reception desk or download a PDF version by clicking on this link.
