What is the Primary Global Community? It is an online space where pupils in Years 4, 5, and 6 who attend Nord Anglia Education schools can come together, from across the world, to learn from one another.
You can login and access the Primary Global Community (or PGC) at any time and from any computer that is connected to the internet.
You’ll be able to test your communication and creative skills by posting messages to pupils from different countries and take part in challenging and creative activities.
It is an opportunity for you to continue your learning, and help others learn, outside of the classroom.
What can I do in the Primary Global Community?
The PGC is composed of different topic areas, for example: Get Creative, Debating Zone, How Stuff Works, and Book Club. The activities and discussions in each of these areas will change each month and you can pick and choose what you'd like to do and get involved with. If you are interested in science or reading or writing or art or debating (or all of them!) then you should find something to get stuck into.
Importantly, it will be you the pupils who help build our understanding by posting thoughtful and informative messages and asking lots of questions. Sarah and Ged, our tutors, will be around to guide discussions and provide feedback.
You can reflect on your learning and progress in the Primary Global Community in your own private Learning Journal.
What is expected of me?
- It's up to you to decide how much time to contribute but the more you contribute, the more you will get out of the PGC. By logging in once a week or more, you'll be able to keep up to date and post messages to keep others on their toes!
- You will need to think about your post and write it carefully before you send it. We are looking to receive well written and thoughtful posts that help us to think.
- In order to get people thinking and talking in discussions it's helpful to share your view and also ask questions. As you'll discover, we'll be asking a lot of questions!
- Be kind and considerate and read and respect each others' ideas and suggestions.
What are the benefits of participation?
- You’ll get to know lots of new pupils
- You could win a Global Classroom award
- You’ll become a more confident writer
- You’ll be able to try out a different way of learning
- You’ll develop your skills in using the internet
- You’ll learn lots of new things
Are there any rules?
- All messages are moderated. Posts containing swearing, irrelevant or inappropriate content will be deleted. So please avoid this.
- NO SHOUTING! Avoid using capital letters to emphasise your point, it looks as though you're shouting. Instead, write persuasively and clearly so that others can understand you.
- Keep your login information a secret and do not allow others to use it to access the Primary Global Community. This is important so that we know who everyone is in our Community at all times.
- Do not share any personal information outside your private Profile, for example, email address, postal address, telephone number, or personal websites. This rule is to prevent you from receiving any unwanted communication
- Show consideration for others and their ideas and respond to their messages in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Bullying will not be tolerated.
- Tell Sarah Dauncey or your classroom teacher if you encounter any content in the Primary Global Community that you find upsetting.
- Tell Sarah Dauncey or your classrooom teacher if you are unhappy with any messages that have been directed to you.
