The Primary Routine

Morning

The school bell rings each morning at 8.25am. At this time, all the children’s class teachers will come down to the front playground to collect their classes. We advise parents bringing their children to school that they should not arrive until 8.20am, to avoid any unnecessary waiting in the playground.

Parents or guardians of children in KS1 and KS2 should not enter the school building in the morning unless they have a pre-arranged meeting with a member of the teaching staff; need to go to the Uniform Shop; need to speak to a member of the Administration team or Sleto, or if they need to visit Nurse Kate. Parents of KS1 and KS2 children should not take their children directly to the classroom themselves. An important part of a child’s development is independence and our morning routine promotes this.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Parents of children in Pre Nursery, Nursery and Reception are able to take their children directly to their classroom, although we strongly encourage you to do this no earlier than 8.20am. Class teachers can often be in meetings before this time and may not always be available in their classrooms.

Children in Key Stage 1 (Y1 and Y2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6)

All children are to congregate on the front playground and when they hear the bell ring, should line up in their class groups. The class teachers will then check that each child has had their temperature checked before leading them to the classroom. Children should not enter the school building before this time, unless they have permission from a member of teaching staff.

What if I need to speak to a teacher?

On ‘dry’ days all class teachers will come down to the playground at approximately 8.25am to collect their class. If you wish to pass on a quick message to your child’s class teacher you are able to do so at this time. If you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher at more length, you can arrange to make an appointment with them at a more convenient time. You are able to contact your class teacher via the Communication Book or by email.

Nurse Kate and the clinic

The clinic will be locked in the mornings. All medications/treatments should be dropped in the labelled box at the main reception. Sheets for authorisation to give medication can also be found at reception. Please complete this form upon delivering the medication. Alternatively, you may write or email instructions to Nurse Kate ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Allergy lunches can also be dropped off at the main reception in the morning. Nurse Kate will return all medications at the end of the day via the children’s school bags.

Wet Weather

In wet weather children should come directly into the school building and go straight to their classroom independently. Parents should not accompany their child to the classroom.
