Accreditations
Since its opening in 2005, our school has become a member of several highly respected accreditation agencies: the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
These recognitions are the result of a series of review and accreditation processes taken by the school as part of its quality assurance. Other reviews taken by the school include those by examination boards and regional organisations. The review process guides and assists the school in its strategic developmental planning as well as assuring quality through rigorous accreditations.
COBIS is a Membership Association of British Schools of quality and is a member of the Independent Schools Council (ISC) of the United Kingdom. The current mission statement of COBIS includes the following as its main objectives:
- Quality assurance in member schools.
- Representation with the British Government, with educational bodies and with the corporate sector.
- A forum for discussion through conferences, seminars and continuing professional development.
- A network of support through contacts, consultancies, information and marketing.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student.
Its three programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
Founded in 1968, they currently work with 3,342 schools in 141 countries to develop and offer three challenging programmes to over 997,000 students aged 3 to 19 years.
At The British International School Shanghai we offer the IB Diploma programme to our students in the sixth form college.
The main aims of this organisation are to broaden the dimensions of education of all schools involved in ACAMIS in the interest of a total programme of education, to advance the professional growth and welfare of individuals belonging to the staff of member schools and to facilitate communication and cooperative action between and among all member schools. The ABRSM is a world-renowned music assessment board that allows musicians to take examinations at a number of accredited centres and encompassing all abilities and ages.
